My Story
As a former Special Education Teacher and current tutor, I love to tutor students in reading fluency, phonics and spelling. I believe students grow in their reading and writing through explicit and individualized reading and spelling instruction. Instruction is built on the students strengths and previous skills learned. Instruction includes phonemic awareness (sound recognition and manipulation), handwriting, phonics, blending, spelling rules, spelling, sentence writing and reading.
I have taught, tutored and formed relationships with students from Kindergarten to 8th grade since 2010. Creating relationships helps provide a foundation for teaching. I have ten years of Special Education experience in brick and mortar schools, 5 years of these years were as a Special Education Teacher at a K-8 school.
I have worked with students from kinder to 8th with mild/moderate disabilities ranging in a variety of types of Learning Disabilities (Reading, Writing, and Math) and students who struggle in reading and math but have not been identified as needing special education services.
I have completed course work in Orton-Gillingham (OG) Reading Strategies. OG strategies provide a structure to teach phonics instruction that integrates multi-sensory methods. It promotes success in reading, so students are motivated & excited to continue to learn.
I am a Colorado native that marvels in the beauty that Colorado Mountains bring everyday. While I am not a skier (imagine that), I do love to go on adventures to new places and have new experiences, such as train rides, theme parks, and festivals. Also, I have had the utmost pleasure to watch my niece and nephew grow up and watch their developmental milestones. While they are not MY pride and joy, they are the apple of my eye.
I am excited to work with you and your child. You are your child's best cheerleader!
