Reading / Decoding (Learning to read)
Can your child put together sounds to create words? Can they read sentences to you and sound like a storyteller? I have taught children to read for well over 20 years. I will do that for your child too!
Wilson Reading Lessons
The Wilson Reading System® (WRS®) is an explicit, direct, comprehensive and structured literacy program that directly and systematically teaches the structure of the English language. Through the program, students learn fluent decoding and encoding skills to the level of mastery. From the beginning steps of the program, students receive instruction in phonemic awareness, decoding and word study, sight word recognition, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, oral expressive language development, and comprehension.
The WRS® utilizes a systematic and cumulative approach to teach total word structure for decoding and encoding, emphasizing the six syllable types. It makes all instruction multisensory and interactive, requiring students to use visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile senses to reinforce skills learned and engage motor memory.
Reading Comprehension (Reading to learn)
After your child reads to you, can they tell you about what they read? Do they see a movie in their head as they read? I am trained in multiple specialized programs that will help with this.
Pulling out information from a Non-fiction text
Does your child have a difficult time pulling the important information out of a non-fiction text? Do they know what is important and what is not? I can help them learn how to do just this.
Organizing / Study Skills
Is your child struggling to keep up with homework, organizing themselves, planning for a class project or a long term assignment?
I am here to support and give them strategies so they can learn to become more independent.
Does your child struggle with memorizing math facts or following multi-step problems? How about answering word problems (They can be a complete nightmare!!)? I have many strategies that can help.
