My Story
Hi, I’m Courtney!
For the past six years, I have worked in a behavior program with students from Kindergarten to 12th grade. Here I help students one-on-one supporting them with acquiring academic, social, emotional and behavioral skills. Here we combine individualized instruction with a multimodal approach and high-interest materials to maximize learning.
Students that attend this program have diagnoses of ADHD, ODD, ASD, etc.
My experience working with these students has shown me that I needed to learn a way to systematically teach my students to read.
This led to getting trained in Orton Gillingham's approach to reading. This program helps students with phonological awareness and gives students a structured way to learn to read that is effective and follows the Science of Reading.
I love to help teach math (it was always my favorite subject in school ) and I will soon be taking the Orton Gillingham Math program.
I love being at the beach on my off time and spending time with family.
Testimonials
Thank you so much for today!!! [My son] came out smiling and happy. He said it was so fun and he knew more than he thought. You were amazing with him and made him feel good about himself! So, thank you again. - Jodi Simet
"I came to My Happy Teacher after my son had been struggling with reading. He was well below reading level and struggled with even CVC words. Luka began working with Ms. Courtney and had made improvements in just a few weeks. His grade in his reading and phonics class went up and he felt much more confident in his reading ability. He has even started to read more! We finally feel like he is ready for 2nd grade reading!
Ms. Courtney uses a game-based learning approach to improve Luka's reading fluency and confidence. He loves tutoring and even said he missed it when he took a week off for summer vacation! Before working with My Happy Teacher, I had never seen Luka excited about learning. I am so grateful to Kathy and Ms. Courtney's dedication to Luka and helping him grow as a reader." - Sammy Bohannon
