My Story
Hello! My name is Marisa Femia. I am an educator in New York who is passionate about language acquisition and literacy development!
I am a graduate of Stony Brook University’s TESOL and Italian Studies program. After that, I earned my Master’s Degree in Literacy Education Studies at SUNY Buffalo. Currently, I am pursuing my School Building Leader and School District Leader certifications back at Stony Brook University...once a Seawolf, always a Seawolf!
Over the past decade, I’ve taught English as a New Language (ENL) and elementary reading as an Academic Intervention Specialist. I am a certified Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner, and I am also trained in Just Words, Leveled Literacy Instruction (LLI) and guided reading. I specialize in working with students who are diagnosed with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and ADHD, with a focus on students grades 1-5. I have also taught at the secondary level with students in grade 8.
As someone who grew up learning Italian, I have always had a deeply rooted passion for language. I always empower my students by saying that teachers are lifelong learners, and I strive to foster that love for learning with my students.
When I am not teaching, you will find me walking my dog, Chewy. Otherwise...I’ll be at Disney! I can’t wait to get to know you.
